Business Start Up - Business Franchise WorldAs Director of Operations for this on-line lead generation property, I was tasked by Ken Robbins (President of Response Mine Interactive) to take an idea all the way from a ratty napkin rendered over lunch at Moes Southwest Grill to great heights of profitability. Well BFW got off the napkin and live in 5 short months, and today has over 50 customers on site. As to great heights of profitability, we ran out of oxygen short of the summit, but its a business to be proud of nonetheless.
In addition to driving the design process (including branding, wire-framing, comp evaluation, user experience prototyping, specifying a world-class content management system, and etc...) I had to build a business.
Conception of an effective and differentiating value proposition in a crowded marketplace, hiring and management of a sales force, production of sales tools, billing systems, business metric maintenance, oversight of paid and organic search programs were all part of the package.
We served our clients well (and continue to today).
I employed a management model that got terrific response from the many contributors from many departments within the agency. Budgets were tight, and none of my resources (except for the principal programmer) were 100% dedicated to this project. They all had other paying customers to answer to. I believe that the team really got behind the effort and did terrific work because I painted a pretty good picture of what was required, trusted the team to deliver, listened well when ideas were tendered, and shared credit for good results.
Buying beer every now and then seemed to help as well.
